Top Model British Invasion: Episode 6 - Jessica Sutta And Nadine Coyle

America's Next Top Model

by Faith-Ashleigh Wong

The remaining nine contestants take off their model hats for the week and get behind the mic for some singing action.  Last cycle's All Stars winner Lisa pays the girls a surprise visit to give them their challenge this week: to record a music video as two girl bands.  It's Team US versus Team UK again!

Recording Session: Fiercely British versus United Sirens of America

To help them bring the performance together, Nadine Coyle from Girls Aloud is brought in to mentor the Brits while Jessica Sutta from Pussycat Dolls fame mentors the Americans.  The girls are given their songs to rehearse and no surprises that "Pot Ledom" is back and features in both songs.

The Good: Team UK really came together in the recording studio.  Each of them delivered their solo with lots of spark, attitude and personality.  Sophie was the one most out of her comfort zone but still managed to give a great performance.  Is there anything she can't do?!

The Bad: In comparison, Team US just could not get it together.  Kyle sounded like a tinny robot and AzMarie sounded like a weird cartoon character!  Maybe they thought they were doing voiceovers not vocals?

The Ugly: An innocent prank the night before turned very ugly when Laura's treasured teddy bear got its ear ripped off.  (Yes, it is exactly as it sounds)  Kyle's bid to the save the ear got misunderstood which led to tension between her and Laura.  This definitely affected their performance in the recording studio, in my opinion.

Choreography Session: Good Tooch versus Bad Tooch

The girls get another surprise visit by none other than Tyra herself!  She gives them an "art of the booty tooch" lesson complete with "training tooch" which will hopefully help their performance for the upcoming video shoot.

The Good: Tyra demonstrates the right way to tooch – the original booty tooch, the side tooch, the goochie tooch and the juicy tooch.  She also teaches the girls the "universal sign of the smize".

The Bad: With good there is also, of course, the bad.  How not to tooch – complete with catchy chant – hoochie tooch, poochie tooch, smoochie tooch and dookie tooch.  Tyra has such a way with words, doesn't she?!

The Ugly: It seems the butt pad was beneath AzMarie who refused to put them on.  I concur with the rest of the girls – that was so disrespectful to Tyra and I'm glad Tyra did not allow her to be a part of the teach because of it.

Video Shoot: We'll Mash You Up versus Stop, Drop N Tooch

The Good: Team UK continue to excel and work together pulling off a very polished performance.  I thought they had lots of energy and sass, they nailed the choreography and they each sold their lyrics perfectly.

The Bad: Meanwhile Team US continue to fall apart.  Kyle struggled the most out of everyone – yes, what is up with that deer-in-headlights look she constantly puts on?  She reminded me of a Barbie.

The Ugly: There is definitely a certain cockiness that AzMarie has developed in recent weeks and this was evident during the video shoot.  As Mr Jay said, she needs to keep her ego in check!

Judging: Too Cool For School versus Lack of "Oomph"

How awesome was Team UK's finished video?!  It actually felt like they were a real girl band, that's how professional and flawless their video was.  I really liked the "tooch off" that both videos had in the bridge of their songs.

Really well done to Team UK!  Catherine took on everything that was taught this week, mastering both the perfect smize and tooch and Sophie committed to the task at hand even though this was not her forte.  Alisha definitely deserved to be called first – she popped in her video and nailed that "beauty squint".  Annaliese's energy and charisma translated very well in the video too.

This week's call-out was no surprise with Team UK beating Team US by a long mile.  The bottom two clearly have the physicality part of a model down pat but as Tyra keeps saying, there is more to a Top Model than just looking pretty.
