Review: Community - Accounting for Lawyers
By Faith-Ashleigh Wong
It’s just another day at Greendale Community College although something seems to have Jeff puzzled. “Why is everyone wearing those hats?” He wonders if it’s another one of the dean’s ridiculous events and right on cue (as always) – in pops the dean in a costume that can only mean one thing: Oktoberfest. Sadly it’s not all beer and festivities for the students as it’s actually a “Pop ‘n’ Lock-toberfest” culminating in a dance competition – the Pop ‘n’ Lock-a-thon.
In this episode we see Jeff’s past and present collide when he meets with an old friend and colleague from the law firm he used to work at. The two clearly have a bit of a bromance going on, complete with pet names and some rather inappropriate touching. Jeff jumps at the chance to go back to his old life when Alan invites him to an office party the following night.
Meanwhile Chang is still determined as ever to be a part of the study group. He attempts to persuade the group to enter the dance competition as a seven member team minus Jeff however his break dance moves merely push the group to still stubbornly wait for their absent ring leader.
Shortly after being introduced to Alan, Annie quickly realizes that she knows him from Narcotics Anonymous meetings they used to attend together. At one of these meetings, Alan bragged about getting a rival colleague disbarred. The group let Jeff in on this but it only falls on deaf ears. As Jeff storms out, this opens the door to a very gleeful Chang. He strikes a deal with the group – if they win the competition, he gets to join the group.
In the words of Abed, “ The stakes have never been higher.” The entourage decide to gate crash the office party with one mission in mind: to obtain proof that Alan sold Jeff out. And in typical Community fashion, things just can’t help but go awry when this group band together – Britta decides to be a whore, Shirley wants to sue a stripper and Pierce gets excited about hunting man for sport.
Elsewhere Annie, Abed and Troy dabble in a little espionage as they break into Alan’s office to hack into his email. The sequence of events that follow is nothing short of improvisational comic genius.
When Jeff is finally faced with the evidence that proves Alan is the reason he got fired, to the group’s disappointment, he merely brushes it off. However what Alan does next causes Jeff to have a change of heart.
Back at Greendale, the Pop ‘n’ Lock-a-thon is still going strong with Chang single-handedly popping for the whole team. The group swoop in just in time and bust out some rather nifty moves.
Will Chang finally be allowed to join the group? Or will Jeff and the rest string him along a little longer? Tune in next week to find out!
Do you think Chang should be let in?
