One Direction, the Spice Girls, Madness, Muse and many more Brit-pop bands headlined the Olympic Closing Ceremony today.

The ceremony, directed by Kim Gavin, featured a nod to Winston Churchill and landmarks of Britain, including the Big Ben, Tower Bridge and London Eye.

One Direction fans took to Twitter to share their excitement shortly after the performance.

The official Olympics account also tweeted ‘Omg Twitter followers it’s @onedirection !!! #closingceremony

The show will include performances of 30 hit British singles from the past five decades.
