A three-time Emmy Award® nominee for How I Met Your Mother and a television staple since his Golden Globe Award®-nominated role in Doogie Howser, M.D., Neil Patrick Harris has since firmly established himself in all mediums. He was named one of the “2008 Entertainers of the Year” by Entertainment Weekly, and has worn many hats, including utilizing his Broadway expertise and comfort on stage when he hosted the 2009 Tony Awards®, for which he earned rave reviews. In 2009 Harris hosted the broadcast of The 61st Primetime Emmy Awards.
In the theater, he starred in Arthur Miller’s All My Sons at the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles. He also had star-turns in the London musical production of Jonathan Larson’sTick, Tick... Boom, as well as Broadway’s Tony® Award-winning musical Assassins, Cabaret and Proof. Harris also performed in the Los Angeles production of Rent and Romeo & Juliet at the Old Globe Theater in San Diego and the concert production of Reprise! Sweeney Todd at Lincoln Center in New York. Furthermore, Harris mixed his love of magic and theatre in directing The Expert at the Card Table at the 2008 Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Neil starred in the hit musical web series Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, which landed in the number one slot on iTunes for its premiere. Dr. Horrible, by Buffy the Vampire Slayer writer Joss Whedon, features Harris in the title role as “a low-rent super villain” wannabe.
Additional television credits include as a series regular on Stark Raving Mad and guest-starring roles on Will & Grace, Ed, Boomtown, Numb3rs, the mini-series Joan of Arc, and the television movies The Christmas Blessing and The Wedding Dress. His other television credits include The Man in the Attic and Cold Sassy Tree.
His feature film credits include Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay, Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle, Undercover Brother, Starship Troopers, The Next Big Thing and Clara’s Heart, for which he received a Golden Globe® nomination.
Harris’ voice-over credits include The Simpsons, Justice League, and the dual role of Peter Parker and Spider Man on the animated series. His voice work also includes creating character voices for numerous books on tape including Slake’s Limbo, Ribsy, and the award winning children’s book, Henry Huggins, as well as the hit feature Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.
An avid fan of the variety arts, Harris enjoys magic, juggling, trapeze and tightrope. In addition, he is also an enthusiast of all types of games – game shows, board games, scavenger hunts, etc.
Harris also has served as a celebrity cabinet member for the Red Cross, as well as being a loyal supporter of Food on Foot, a homeless shelter in Hollywood.
Harris was born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
