How far would you go to attain riches? Would you force feed someone and cut open their throat if you knew there was a very rare and valuable "golden egg" to be found?
This week, Nick plans a romantic getaway vacation with Juliette with the intention to propose to her. Sadly there is no such thing as a weekend off when it comes to being a Grimm. As Juliette herself has started to notice, trouble seems to keep finding them.
Conveniently the cabin that Nick and Juliette are staying at is just across the way from a Wesen couple – Tim, a Klaustreich (cat-like creatures who are popular among women even though it never ends well) and Robin, a Seltenvögel (a thought-to-be-extinct bird-like Wesen). Even though Nick tries very hard to keep out of it, the couple's suspicious behaviour and Juliette's concern for Robin's safety eventually leaves Nick no choice but to put his Grimm hat back on.
He consults Monroe who, being the "Grimmipedia" that he is, quite quickly manages to piece the puzzle together. We learn that Seltenvögel are normally kept as prisoners because they are the bearer of something incredibly valuable to the creature community. Once in their lifetime, a dense mineral throat deposit known as "Unbezahlbar" grows in a Seltenvögel's throat sac. This "golden egg" is worth a lot and must be extracted in one piece – because if broken, it is worthless.
Meanwhile Hank continues to get ever more tangled in Adalind's web. From stalking her via the police tracking system (creepy much?) and spying on her at home, he has definitely entered full blown obsessed mode. Sergeant Wu, on the other hand, has now taken to snacking on paper clips.
The usual "Wesen tutorial" from Monroe is done in a more tech-savvy way this week and with guidance from an additional confidante, Rosalee who we met in the last episode. I thought it was a good change as it keeps things from getting too repetitive since each episode is quite formulaic.
Thanks to a Wesen book that Rosalee's late brother had handy in the apothecary (complete with rather graphic illustrations), Rosalee and Monroe managed to guide Nick via video call in to extracting the egg safely and intact from Robin's throat. I love this newly formed "Grimm squad" but what I love even more is the sparks that are so clearly flying between Rosalee and Monroe!
With Juliette in the thick of most of it, it was amazing that Nick's cover wasn't blown – although it came close to on a number of occasions! Juliette has always been incredibly intuitive though and even though she doesn't yet know the truth, Nick can't fool her – she knows something is up.
I felt so sorry for Nick when his proposal got rejected but all the same, incredibly proud of Juliette. As much as it would probably harm her more than help her if she knew of Nick's other identity, she was right to put the marriage on hold. Will Nick finally let her in on his secret?
