Blog: The Glee Project Episode 2 - Dance-ability

Get ready for some two left feet action as the contestants' (lack of) dance skills are put to the test this week.  It's going to take a miracle to teach this uncoordinated bunch how to bust a move!

This week's homework assignment causes sparks to fly as personalities begin to clash and some struggle to be heard – and it's only the second episode...yikes!  It all gets too much for one contestant which leads to a surprise voluntary exit.  Didn't see that coming!  What's the Glee version of "if you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen"?

To everyone's [ahem] glee, this week's special guest is none other than the person who was in their very shoes – last season's co-winner, Samuel Larsen.  (Being in the Damian camp, I was a tad disappointed...)

I thought the contestants' rendition of We Got The Beat by The Go Go's was great; vocally they are definitely starting to mesh a lot better.  I loved the energy and enthusiasm of the performance and the choreography they managed to put together was actually not too shabby, surprisingly!

Both casting director and special guest were very impressed.  Samuel was very generous with his feedback and Robert even when as far as to say that it was the best homework assignment performance ever, last season included.

This high was sadly short lived when it came time to prepare for this week's music video and group number – LMFAO's Party Rock Anthem.  In keeping with the dance-ability theme, the contestants were tasked to learn one eight-count routine and think of a freestyle bit for a dance solo moment.

They struggled during rehearsals but everything just fell apart during shooting.  Lily kept doing "wedding dance moves", Tyler still could not connect with his new body, Dani lacked energy and Abraham kept over-thinking his performance.  And everyone seemed to have trouble coordinating their choreography and their lip syncing.  It was a disaster!

I think Zach summed it up best: "it's like everyone got amnesia at the same time".  Major kudos to the editing team for still managing to piece together a decent video!

Perhaps distraction is the reason why they all performed so poorly.  That and infatuation for some.  Aylin, the unabashed flirt of the group, causes some tension and jealousy when she takes a make believe game of spin the bottle a little too far.  Am I the only one that finds her incredibly irritating?!

From the best performance in the series history to the worst, needless to say the mentors are not happy campers and are beyond disappointed.  Dani's inability to play someone else other than herself, Lily's bad attitude and Tyler's ongoing awkwardness is what sees them in the bottom three.

I have to say I am absolutely floored at who didn't make the call back list.  In my opinion, being disrespectful towards the mentors (plus admitting that this has happened before!) should be enough to send you packing.  But then, Glee is all about performance and the person that got sent home was clearly, as Ryan Murphy said, more of an artist than a performer.

What do you think?  Did the right person get eliminated?
